Product Details

1. Product Overview

The 220 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) is a fully enclosed, compact, and modular high-voltage equipment widely used in modern power systems. Unlike traditional open-air substations (AIS), in the 220 kV GIS, all main high-voltage current-carrying components are housed inside a sealed metal enclosure filled with high-purity sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas. This advanced design completely isolates the electrical components from environmental influences, providing excellent insulation performance, high arc-quenching efficiency, and resistance to contamination.

Our 220 kV GIS equipment is manufactured in strict accordance with international IEC standards and national technical requirements for high-voltage electrical equipment. It is designed for use in 220 kV power transmission and distribution projects, ensuring reliable performance of switching, disconnection, protection, and insulation functions at electrical substations, power plants, industrial energy facilities, as well as in the modernization of urban grids and the creation of power supply systems for large infrastructure projects. Thanks to its high operational reliability, minimal environmental impact, and extremely low failure rate, this GIS equipment has become the preferred solution for modern compact urban substations and energy facilities operating in challenging climatic conditions worldwide.

3. Application scenarios

220 kV GIS switchgear is widely used in various high-quality power transmission and transformation projects around the world:

Key 220 kV substations in cities and urban network modernization projects

Thermal power plants, hydroelectric power plants, and step-up stations of new-generation power plants

Underground substations and compact indoor substations

Coastal energy projects, chemical industrial parks, and power supply projects in high-pollution areas

Power supply projects for high-speed railways, airports, ports, and major transportation hubs

Specialized power plants for mining, petrochemical, and large-scale industrial sectors

4. Key Product Advantages

4.1 Ultra-compact design and minimal footprint

Compared with traditional open-type equipment (AIS), the 220 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) can reduce the total floor area by more than 70% and significantly decrease the space required for vertical installation. The highly integrated modular design eliminates the need for large open areas to ensure insulation distances. The equipment is ideal for installation in central urban areas, mountainous regions, coastal zones with scarce land resources, as well as indoor and underground substations, thereby significantly reducing construction and land acquisition costs.

4.2 Excellent adaptability to environmental conditions and high reliability

All live high-voltage parts are fully sealed inside a metal enclosure and reliably insulated from external influences. The equipment is resistant to salt spray, industrial pollution, dust, dense fog, icing, and strong wind. There is no risk of external insulation flashover, ensuring continuous and stable operation in coastal areas with high corrosive activity, near chemical plants, and in regions with severe climates. Equipment operation is unaffected by seasonal weather changes, guaranteeing reliable performance year-round.

4.3 Minimal maintenance requirements and long service life

The fully enclosed design with SF6 gas insulation prevents aging and contamination of external insulation components. The internal operating mechanism features high precision and wear resistance, ensuring stable mechanical performance and a low failure rate. Routine maintenance is limited to periodic checks of the SF6 gas pressure and scheduled inspections; frequent maintenance requiring equipment shutdown is unnecessary. The overall service life exceeds 30 years, significantly reducing subsequent operating costs and improving the efficiency of the power system.
